Behind the Name

Katie's great aunt, Vivian Sparkman, whom she affectionately called "Bebe," was born and raised in Pasco County, Florida. Bebe's passion for drawing and painting resonated throughout the county as she contributed doodles to the Dade City Newspaper. Painting in her red shed not only brought her joy but also helped Uncle JC pay the bills. Her love for the arts inspired many people, including Katie herself.

Vivian was also a strong feminist. She passionately protested against the demolition of City Hall before the 2000s, always standing up for what she believed in. As a young girl, Katie would watch Pinocchio while enjoying spaghetti, a must-have dish at Vivian's house. Her unique fashion sense and interior design featured pineapples and her vibrant red kitchen. Vivian sparked Katie's love for art, and her name has inspired Katie's business.

Now, Katie is an aunt herself and has also taken on the name Bebe. She hopes to be as wonderful an aunt to her nieces as her Aunt Bebe was to her.

Behind the Logo

Sparkman Designs is thrilled to unveil a new logo as it embarks on another chapter in its journey.

Many may wonder why an orange slice was chosen as a symbol for a freelance design business. Katie's father had a deep passion for agriculture, particularly the citrus industry. Growing up, she worked alongside him in their backyard, planting peas and checking on his cherished citrus plants. Katie and her sister spent countless weekends with sticky fingers, peeling oranges on the playground with their dad or helping their mom make fresh orange juice from the fruits harvested in their backyard.

Katie's father passed away in May 2023 after a courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia. He was always her biggest supporter and a fan of her artwork.

Sparkman Designs is now dedicated to the memory of both her great-aunt, Vivian Sparkman, and her father, Brent Sutton.
